Why does the agent redo or skip steps in long projects?
Because each session reasons from what's in front of it, and the plan isn't. Steps that closed two sessions ago and dead-ends you ruled out aren't visible, so it re-derives both. Hold the aim and the settled steps outside the session and every new session picks the work up where it truly is.
Is a longer context window the fix?
A longer window moves the wall; it doesn't remove it — and a project's real spine isn't the transcript anyway, it's the settled decisions inside it.
