What the naked read gives you

Ask GoCardless's MCP whether a payment has cleared, and it returns exactly what the account holds: payment status, the mandate it ran against, any events logged since, the payout it landed in. Precise and current, because that is the read-only surface GoCardless built for an assistant to query - not a call on whether the payment meets the bar your membership team runs collections by.

The frame judges the data it is given; it does not verify the source’s accuracy.

What changes when GoCardless is read measured

The membership ops lead ratified the collection-readiness rule: a payment only counts as cleared once its status reads confirmed, the mandate behind it is active, and no failure event has been logged against it in the current cycle, because payments were being marked as collected while a retry was still quietly running in the background.

'Has this payment cleared?' returns, measured: chase, a failure event logged two days ago against an active mandate, because a member who thinks they've paid and hasn't is the complaint that costs the most goodwill. GoCardless supplied the payment and event data; your ratified rule supplied the collection bar.

And back again

The chase doesn't reset itself each time someone asks. Unl keeps the payment, the event that triggered the chase and the rule behind it linked together, so a follow-up query on the same payment picks up from what was already flagged rather than starting the read over from nothing.

Sign in through GoCardless's own MCP at mcp.gocardless.com and authenticate against your account. Claude gains read-only access to payments, mandates and payouts, and Unl measures what comes back against your ratified collection rule.

Does Unl collect, cancel or retry payments in GoCardless?

No. GoCardless's own MCP is read-only, and Unl only ever queries it - looking up the payment, mandate or event and checking it against your ratified rule. Nothing is created, cancelled or modified.
