Hex finds the project and shows what the Thread concluded. Whether that conclusion is solid enough to cite in a decision is your rule - and 'the notebook ran' isn't the same as 'the notebook is current.'
Hex through Unl reads project search results and Thread conversations against the citation criteria you have ratified, so 'can I cite this analysis' comes back cleared-or-held with the condition it hasn't met.

What Hex through Unl actually reads, direct from the Hex MCP:

What the naked read gives you
Ask Hex through Unl to search for the churn-driver analysis and it finds the project, opens the Thread, and returns exactly what the analysis concluded - the chart, the summary the agent wrote, the number it landed on. That is a faithful read of a real piece of work someone built. What Hex does not track for the reader is whether that project was last touched two days ago against fresh data, or six months ago against a schema that has since changed underneath it - the Thread still answers with the same confidence either way.
The frame judges the data it is given; it does not verify the source’s accuracy.
What changes when Hex is read measured
Say you're an analytics engineer whose team cites Hex projects in planning docs, and you've ratified that an analysis is citable only if the project has been re-run within the last thirty days and its title carries no draft tag - anything older, or still marked draft, gets flagged for a re-run before it's quoted.
'Can I cite the churn-driver project in the roadmap doc?' returns, measured: not yet, because the project last ran forty-four days ago, past the thirty-day window your rule sets, even though the Thread's conclusion still reads cleanly. Hex supplied the project metadata and the Thread's results; your ratified rule supplied the thirty-day freshness bar.
And back again
Re-run the project, ask the same question again, and log the result to Unl against your thirty-day rule - the roadmap doc then carries proof the analysis was fresh when it was cited, not just that it once existed.

Why did Hex through Unl say this analysis isn't citable yet?
Because the project hasn't been re-run inside the freshness window you ratified, even though its Thread still shows a clean result. Re-run it, or change the window, and the verdict updates with it.
How do I connect Hex to Claude?
Hex's MCP server is available on Team and Enterprise plans - enable it from your workspace settings and connect from Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another MCP client. Unl reads projects and Threads through that same connection.
Does connecting Hex let Unl edit my projects?
No. Unl searches projects and reads Thread results - it doesn't edit the underlying notebook, its cells, or your connected data.
