What the naked read gives you

Run a saved search or a SuiteQL query through NetSuite via Unl and a department's quarterly spend comes back to the line, posted exactly as the ledger shows it. Nothing to dispute there. Whether that figure sits inside budget is a separate matter entirely - the budget was never a ledger entry, it was a decision, and NetSuite only ever kept the ledger.

The frame judges the data it is given; it does not verify the source’s accuracy.

What changes when NetSuite is read measured

Your controller ratified the quarterly budget for the department, set at the start of the year against the plan the board had signed off.

'Is this department on budget' returns, measured: over budget by six percent, the overrun still to explain before quarter close. NetSuite supplied the ledger figure; your ratified rule supplied the budget.

The budget line, why the controller set it there, and how this quarter's actuals landed against it become a single fact inside Unl. Close after close, the department is measured against the same ratified figure, with the reasoning carried forward instead of renegotiated at every review.

Why does one department come back over budget and another with similar spend does not?

Because the ratified budget is set per department, not as one figure across the business. Unl reads each department's ledger position against its own ratified line, so two teams with similar spend can return different verdicts if their budgets were set differently.

How do I connect NetSuite to Claude?

Install the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp from Oracle's NetSuite documentation, which sets up the AI Connector Service. Connect Claude as the AI client, and access follows your existing NetSuite role permissions. Unl reads through that same connector once it is configured.

Does Unl change records or post journal entries?

Unl reads through NetSuite, and can write back on your explicit gesture — it never acts as a side effect of a read.
