How do I connect GitHub to ChatGPT?
OpenAI's own prompt library steers users toward PR and repo questions — and GitHub's official 105-tool server is how those questions get real answers in ChatGPT.
Direct answer: connect GitHub's official MCP server to ChatGPT. In ChatGPT, add it from the connector settings (developer mode); the tool's own docs carry the current path. Authorised, ChatGPT reads repos and code, issues, PRs with diffs and reviews, commits, Actions runs and logs, code-scanning and Dependabot alerts, and notifications; a read-only mode narrows the whole surface to observation. The known caveat travels too: very large PR payloads have been reported to strain IDE clients — scope giant-diff questions sensibly.
The questions the platform teaches
PR status, ticket progress, why the workflow failed — the platform prompt libraries push exactly these, and the official server answers them from the repository rather than from plausible general knowledge.
Alerts age into incidents
Worked case: you ratified a dependency SLA — critical Dependabot alerts get patched or explicitly deferred within forty-eight hours, after a known-critical sat open for a month and became the post-incident timeline's worst line. GitHub raises the alerts; the forty-eight hours is your clock, and clocks need someone to hold them.
Through Unl the security read arrives with the clock held: one critical alert at thirty-nine hours — nine from your line, the timeline's-worst-line story attached. The SLA enforces itself at every read instead of at the next incident review.
GitHub to ChatGPT reads the repository with the official server's full depth; through Unl the repository answers to the engineering clocks you ratified — the alert's age is measured against your SLA, not against goodwill.
Reads through Unl arrive with measured context — in the presence of the decisions you’ve already settled. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

Questions people ask
What does ChatGPT read from GitHub?
Repos, code, issues, PRs (diffs, reviews, comments), commits, Actions runs and logs, security alerts, notifications — 105+ tools, with an optional read-only mode.
Is the setup different from Claude's?
Only client-side. One official server; each MCP client adds it through its own connector flow.
What engineering clocks ratify well?
Alert SLAs, review-turnaround norms, freeze windows. Anything currently enforced by conscience gets sturdier when it arrives inside the read with its incident.
What if the alert turns out to be a false positive?
Then the clock should stop and the dismissal should be recorded, because an SLA measured on alerts nobody triaged is measuring noise. What you want later is how many were real and how long those took. Dismissals without reasons make that number unrecoverable.
