What the naked read gives you
A naked read tells you the checks are green and there are two open Dependabot alerts. Accurate, and mute on whether that clears your release bar, because your bar isn’t written in the repo.
The frame judges the data it is given; it does not verify the source’s accuracy.
What changes when GitHub is read measured
Say your ship bar is three conditions on the release PR: all checks green, no open code-scanning alerts, and every review comment resolved.
“Is the release clean?” returns, measured: not yet — checks pass and reviews are resolved, but two code-scanning alerts are still open, which fails the bar you set to keep known-vulnerable code out of a release. The statuses came from GitHub; the bar, the three-way check and the reason came from what you ratified.
And back again
When you accept one alert as a false positive and record that in Unl, the next read stops counting it against the bar — the exception is settled, not re-argued each release.

Can AI tell me if a GitHub release is ready to ship?
Reading GitHub alone returns the statuses, not the verdict. Through Unl you ratify your ship bar (say checks green, no open code-scanning alerts, reviews resolved), and the release is measured against it — the answer is go or not-go with the failing condition named.
How do I connect GitHub to Claude?
GitHub runs an official MCP server with a read-only mode, so a client can read the repository directly. Through Unl the same PRs, checks and alerts arrive measured against your ship bar, turning a status page into a decision.
Does Unl push code or merge PRs?
Unl reads through GitHub, and can write back on your explicit gesture — it never acts as a side effect of a read.
What if an alert is open on a file the release does not touch?
Then your bar counts it anyway, because the condition you wrote asks whether any code-scanning alert is open, not whether it sits in this diff. The read tells you the alert is open and which file it is in; whether “in this release” belongs in the condition is yours to add. Until you do, the rule is answered exactly as written, which is the point of having written it down.
