How do I connect Mercury to Claude?
Mercury's hosted MCP server is read-only by design — the sane shape for a bank connection — so Claude can see the money without any path to moving it.
Direct answer: Mercury (the startup bank used by roughly a third of US startups) provides a hosted MCP server that is read-only by design. Add it as a connector in Claude, authorise your Mercury account, and Claude can read accounts, balances, transactions, cards, recipients, statements and treasury positions. There is no write path — a property, not a restriction to work around.
Banking questions, answered from the account
What cleared this week, which card carries the subscription creep, how the treasury ladder sits, what the operating account holds this morning — live answers, no dashboard hopping. For a solo founder the practical unlock is banking questions asked in the middle of other work, in the same conversation.
The float rule the bank never sees
Concrete case: you keep a ratified operating buffer — three months of average burn stays in the current account, the rest ladders into treasury; set after a wire delay once forced an awkward week. Mercury holds balances and history in perfect detail. Your three-month buffer is a decision about the balances, and decisions are not a banking product.
The read with your rule in the room
Through Unl the morning balance arrives measured: buffer intact, or thinning toward your line with the reason it exists — the wire-delay week — attached. Mercury's read-only design pairs naturally with Unl's one-way read: nothing moves money in either direction; what changes is that the number lands inside your standing, so 'are we fine?' has an authored answer.
Mercury to Claude gives you the balances; Mercury through Unl gives you the balances against the buffer you ratified — fine by your rule, or approaching the line you drew, and why you drew it.
Reads through Unl arrive with measured context — in the presence of the decisions you’ve already settled. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

Questions people ask
Is the Mercury MCP connection safe?
Its server is read-only by design — there is no tool that moves money, so the failure surface of a connected session is reading, not acting. Combined with Unl's one-way read the whole chain observes and judges; it never touches funds.
What can Claude read once Mercury is connected?
Accounts, balances, transactions, cards, recipients, statements and treasury — the full observational surface of the bank. Enough for cash questions, spend patterns and treasury posture from within a conversation.
Why put a buffer rule in Unl instead of a spreadsheet?
The spreadsheet holds the number; Unl holds the number with its reasoning and serves it when the balance read happens, unprompted. The rule stops being something you must remember to check and becomes the frame the balance is read inside.
Does Mercury connect to ChatGPT or Cursor as well?
Yes — Mercury's server speaks MCP, and MCP is a protocol rather than a Claude feature, so any client that takes connectors can add the same endpoint and get the same read surface. Unl reaches it the same way: if it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it, so the buffer rule you ratify is read against your balances wherever you are working rather than in one tool.
Can I just use Mercury's own MCP server on its own?
Yes — for the raw read that is often all you need, and this page's steps need nothing else. It returns accounts, balances, transactions and treasury accurately, read-only by design. What it cannot tell you is whether a balance is fine, because fine is a line you drew and the bank was never told about it. That is the layer Unl adds on top of the same read, not a replacement for it.
What this is
Think inside your AI world — you stay in command
Unlimitless (Unl to friends) holds what you've settled, reads what your tools are showing, and catches what's changed out in the world — and hands your AI whatever bears on the work, the moment it's needed, without you asking. The right thing, in front of the model, unprompted, with you in command of the call. So you keep moving toward what you set out to build, on top of everything you've already decided.
It plugs into Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Cursor as an MCP connector. Quick to connect, in a couple of steps.
Unlimitless is open now to invited Alpha. Apply for the Beta waitlist to come in ahead of the full launch:
