How many months of runway do I really have?
There are two runway numbers: the raw months of cash, and the months you can actually use before you hit your own line. The second is the one that governs decisions, and it only exists once the floor you refuse to cross is in the read alongside the balance.
Raw runway is arithmetic; usable runway is a judgement against your floor. The gap between them is the buffer you have decided to keep. Put the floor in Unl and “how many months do I really have?” returns both — the cash months, and the months to your line, with the reason the line is there.
Two numbers, not one

Say your floor is ratified at four months, because that is the runway you want intact when you open your next raise. You ask how much runway you really have. The read returns: eleven months of cash in total, but seven usable before your four-month floor, and the floor is there to enter a raise from strength.
Now the answer is decision-ready. You plan against the seven, not the eleven, because the four is spoken for by a reason you set deliberately.
Keeping 'really' honest
When you close the raise and no longer need the pre-raise cushion, you lower the floor and ratify it, so the usable figure grows to reflect your new position. The read always measures against the floor you currently hold, not a cushion whose reason has passed.
