Is my team actually blocked, or just waiting?

“Blocked” is the most inflated word in a standup. Most of what gets called blocked is ordinary waiting — for a review, a reply, a build. The two look identical in the moment and cost completely differently, and only a definition you set can tell them apart.

A genuine blocker needs intervention; waiting just needs time. Conflate them and you either escalate everything or trust nothing. The line between them isn’t in the word — it’s in a definition you ratified. Unl holds that definition, so a read can say which items are truly blocked by your standard and which are just slow.

Why is ‘blocked’ so overused?

Because it’s the word available when work isn’t moving, regardless of why. Waiting on a colleague’s review, waiting on a third party, genuinely unable to proceed — all get the same label, because the label is about the feeling of being stuck, not the cause.

That inflation has a cost. When everything is “blocked,” nothing is — the word stops carrying signal, and the one item that genuinely needs you is indistinguishable from the four that just need an afternoon.

What separates blocked from waiting?

A threshold you set. Say you’re leading a contract build, whose definition is explicit: blocked means more than one business day waiting on a decision only I can make. By that rule, of six “blocked” items this morning, one qualifies — it’s waited two days on a call only you can make. The other five are waiting on things that will clear themselves.

A general-purpose AI hears “blocked” six times and can only repeat it. It can’t apply your one-day, decision-only threshold, because that definition is a choice you made, not a state it can detect.

What does a measured read surface?

The genuine blocker, named against the rule: “One item is blocked by your definition — two days waiting on a decision only you can make; the other five are waiting, not blocked.” That’s the item worth interrupting your day for; the rest can be left to resolve.

Measured context restores the word’s signal by applying your definition instead of taking the label at face value — so “blocked” means blocked again, and you spend your intervention where it’s actually needed.

“Blocked” and “waiting” look identical and cost differently; measured context applies the definition you ratified, so the read names the item that’s truly blocked and leaves the ones that are merely slow.

Reads through Unl arrive with measured context — in the presence of the decisions you’ve already settled. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

Questions people ask

What’s the difference between blocked and waiting?

Blocked needs intervention; waiting just needs time — but they look identical in a standup, so the line between them has to be a definition you set. For one lead, “blocked” means more than a business day waiting on a decision only they can make. Measured context applies that definition rather than taking the word at face value.

Why does everything get called ‘blocked’?

Because it’s the word available when work isn’t moving, regardless of cause — and when everything is blocked, nothing is, because the word stops carrying signal. The genuine blocker that needs you becomes indistinguishable from the items that just need an afternoon.

Can AI find my real blockers?

It can repeat the word “blocked” back, but it can’t apply your threshold — “a day waiting on a decision only I can make” is a choice you made, not a state it detects. Measured context holds the definition so the read names the genuine blocker. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

What this is

Think inside your AI world — you stay in command

Unlimitless (Unl to friends) holds what you've settled, reads what your tools are showing, and catches what's changed out in the world — and hands your AI whatever bears on the work, the moment it's needed, without you asking. The right thing, in front of the model, unprompted, with you in command of the call. So you keep moving toward what you set out to build, on top of everything you've already decided.

It plugs into Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Cursor as an MCP connector. Quick to connect, in a couple of steps.

Unlimitless is open now to invited Alpha. Apply for the Beta waitlist to come in ahead of the full launch:
