Is this a commit deal, or a best-case deal?

The forecast categories only work if the line between them is real. Commit and best-case are separated by a single question: has the buyer done something they can’t easily undo, or is it still your confidence holding the deal up? Draw that line and the categories mean something; blur it and they collapse into optimism.

Best-case is the deal you hope lands; commit is the deal the buyer has started to make happen too. The category isn’t a feeling about likelihood — it’s a fact about whether the buyer has crossed into irreversible action. Unl holds your line between the two, so a read places each deal where it belongs, instead of letting confidence promote deals it shouldn’t.

Why do the categories collapse into each other?

Because when the dividing line is unstated, both categories become measures of the seller’s optimism at slightly different intensities. “Commit” drifts to mean “quite confident” and “best-case” to mean “fairly confident” — two shades of the same feeling, rather than two different states of the deal. The forecast loses the information the split was meant to carry.

Restoring the split requires a fact, not a feeling: something the buyer has done that they wouldn’t easily walk back. That fact is what makes commit stronger than best-case — and it’s exactly what gets skipped when categories are assigned by gut.

What is the line between them?

Irreversible buyer action. Say you sell a platform product solo. Your line is clear: commit means the buyer has taken a step they can’t easily undo — signed an order form, opened procurement, set a board date. Best-case is everything I believe but they haven’t acted on. Confidence alone never crosses the line.

Your flagship deal has an enthusiastic champion and a verbal yes, and your instinct wants to commit it. But the buyer has taken no irreversible step — procurement hasn’t opened, nothing is signed. By your own line it’s best-case, however strongly you believe in it.

What does the measured verdict return?

Your line applied to the deal: “Best-case, not commit — strong verbal support but no irreversible buyer action yet, which is your commit condition.” That’s a category set by fact, and only measured context can hold it, because “irreversible action” is your definition, not a stage the deal reports.

The categories stop being two flavours of hope and become two real states of the deal — so the commit number carries the certainty it’s supposed to, measured against the line you drew.

Commit and best-case collapse into optimism when the line between them is unstated; measured context holds your rule — commit requires irreversible buyer action — and places each deal by fact rather than feeling.

Reads through Unl arrive with measured context — in the presence of the decisions you’ve already settled. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

Questions people ask

What’s the difference between commit and best-case deals?

Commit means the buyer has taken an irreversible step — signed, opened procurement, set a date — while best-case is everything you believe but they haven’t acted on. When the line is unstated, both just measure the seller’s optimism at different intensities. Measured context holds your rule and places each deal by fact rather than feeling.

How should I categorise a deal in my forecast?

By whether the buyer has done something they can’t easily undo, not by how confident you feel. That fact is what makes commit stronger than best-case, and it’s exactly what gets skipped when categories are assigned by gut. Measured context applies your line, so the categories carry real information instead of two shades of hope.

Can AI sort my deals into forecast categories?

A general-purpose model can accept whatever category you assign, but drawing the commit line needs your definition of irreversible buyer action — and that’s your decision, not a signal on the deal. Measured context supplies it, so the read places each deal by your rule. The reach lane is live: one box, paste anything. If it speaks MCP, Unl can reach it. Readings arrive unprompted, the data beside the criterion; Unl is a courier, not a warehouse, and keeps only your keys and the frame.

Why do commit and best-case collapse into optimism?

Because the line between them is usually unstated, so everything drifts up. Through Unl the read holds your evidence bar for each category, so a deal lands in commit only when it clears that bar — keeping the two apart instead of letting hope blur them.

Think inside your AI world — you stay in command

Unlimitless (Unl to friends) holds what you've settled, reads what your tools are showing, and catches what's changed out in the world — and hands your AI whatever bears on the work, the moment it's needed, without you asking. The right thing, in front of the model, unprompted, with you in command of the call. So you keep moving toward what you set out to build, on top of everything you've already decided.

It plugs into Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Cursor as an MCP connector. Quick to connect, in a couple of steps.
