What the naked read gives you

A naked Linear read lists what’s open: eleven issues, two of them P0, the billing project at 80%. Accurate; it leaves the go/no-go call entirely to you, because your gate isn’t written down anywhere Linear can see.

The frame judges the data it is given; it does not verify the source’s accuracy.

What changes when Linear is read measured

Say your launch gate is three criteria: zero P0s open, the billing project at 100%, and velocity not declining two cycles running.

“Are we go for launch?” returns, measured: not go — all three of your criteria are unmet: two P0s are still open, billing is at 80%, and velocity has slipped for the second cycle. The board came from Linear; the gate, the three-way check and the verdict came from what you ratified — so it’s a decision, not a status page.

Can AI check if we're ready to launch from Linear?

Reading Linear alone gives you the board, not the verdict. Through Unl you ratify the launch gate (for example zero P0s, billing complete, velocity holding, with your reasons), and the live board is measured against it — the answer is go or not-go with each unmet criterion called out.

How do I connect Linear to Claude?

Linear runs an official hosted MCP server, so a client can read the board directly. Through Unl the same issues and cycles arrive measured against your launch gate, turning “here are the tickets” into “go, or not, and why”.

Does Unl write to my Linear board?

Unl reads through Linear, and can write back on your explicit gesture — it never acts as a side effect of a read.

What if the project is too new to have two cycles of velocity?

Then that part of your gate cannot be evaluated, and it is reported as unevaluated rather than as passed. Zero P0s and a completed billing project can both be true while the velocity clause has no history to test against. A gate with three criteria of which one is silent is not a gate that has been met; it is one you can still choose to act on, knowing which part went unanswered.
