Say you’ve ratified a merge bar: reviews approved, checks green and no open code-scanning alert — and the rule that a channel message never substitutes for it, because the loudest “ship it” shouldn’t merge unreviewed code under deadline.

The two naked reads

Slack returns the thread and the push to merge. GitHub returns the review state, the checks and the alerts. Both are accurate; neither weighs the channel’s urgency against the merge bar, so “is this actually ready?” rides on nerve.

The one measured answer

Against your bar: the thread wants it merged now, but one review is unapproved and a code-scanning alert is open — so “ship it” overrides your bar rather than meeting it, and it’s the review and the alert holding it, not the mood.

And back again

If you waive the alert with a documented reason and take the review yourself, you ratify that in Unl — and the next “ship it” is measured against the bar as you’ve now set it.
